Notice of Introduction of Lodging Tax
Okinawa Prefecture will introduce a "lodging tax" on February 1, 2027.
Even if the reservation date is earlier, if the stay is on or after February 1, it will be subject to taxation.
For guests using accommodations on Izena Island,
2% of room chargeis levied as an accommodation tax.
Any form of lodging, overnight stay, or single-family rental is subject to taxation.
However, students, teachers and supervisors of school educational activities (school trips) and village-sponsored sports events are exempt.
If the room charge is 10,000 yen → 200 yen room tax (maximum 2,000 yen)

Students, pupils, and teachers who stay overnight for school educational activities such as school excursions, sports events, and cultural events are exempt from the accommodation tax. In order to be exempted, you will need to submit a certificate proving that the activity is a school activity.
However, photographers, drivers, guides, chaperones, referees, and parents/guardians for cheering are not exempt from the tax, so they will be required to pay the accommodation tax.
