Sho En-Oniwa Park is a memorial park built on the site of the birthplace of King Sho En, the founder of the second Sho dynasty of the Ryukyu Kingdom, to commemorate the 580th anniversary of his birth. Completed in 1996, a bronze statue of the young King Sho En (then Kanamaru) stands in the center of the park to welcome visitors. The statue was created by Mutsutoshi Naga, a leading Okinawan printmaker. The "Ushiohei Well," which is said to have been used by King Shoen as a birthwater, remains on the site, and is a popular place for visitors to relax and feel the history and nature of the island. It is conveniently located only 3 minutes by car from Nakada Port for sightseeing.
