Model Course for Enjoying History
A two-day and one-night trip to the historical sites associated with King Shoen and to experience the history and culture of Izena Island.
DAY 1
Ferry Arrival
Rent a car and check in at the inn (1 minute walk from the ferry)
Check-in at Mishima Guest House
Located in the terminal premises, next to the car rental shop, so very convenient.
Lunch time at the island cafeteria
Rest House Kamiyama, a lunch shop located in the center of the island *Closed on Mondays (about 3 minutes by car from the terminal) Mozuku soba noodles filled with mozuku seaweed from Izena Island are popular.
Shoen-oh Oniwa (about 3 minutes by car from Rest House Kamiyama)
This bronze statue was built to commemorate the 580th anniversary of the birth of King Shoen. The direction it points is... let's see it there! There is a parking lot, so you can park there and walk to the next Mihosojo.
Mihosojo, birthplace of King Shoen (1 minute walk backward from the location of the bronze statue)
The birthplace of King Shoen, the starting point of the history of Izena Island. The umbilical cord is buried at the site of the former residence.
Phantom rice field "Sakata" (Sakata) *5 minutes by car from Oniwa Park
This is the actual rice field that was cultivated by the later King Shoen, "Machigani". 600 years have passed, but the water has never run dry in this fantastic rice field. You can actually see the water pooling in the field. The monument is inscribed with songs left by maidens all over the island who were thinking of him at that time. *The entrance is difficult to find. Enter from the crossroads of sugar cane fields and go toward "o" to find it. Please note that the sign faces the opposite direction. It is possible to enter by car, but the vehicle may be damaged as it passes through a farm road.
Tongsuijeongsil Park "Statue of King Shoen's Horseman" (10 min. by car from Gyakuden)
This bronze statue of King Sho En as a young boy was built to commemorate the 600th anniversary of his birth. It is based on the story of how he rode his horse along this road to visit his girlfriend in Seori-kaku. Public restrooms are available for visitors to take a restroom break.
Rest at JA supermarket (10 min. by car from Sakata)
We took a break to buy drinks at a well-stocked local supermarket.
Meikari Family Residence (10 minutes by car from Sakata)
An important cultural property that preserves the lifestyle of the senior samurai of the Ryukyu Kingdom period.
Fukugi trees in Izena village
Stroll through the village with its rows of fukugi trees and coral stone walls left over 300 years old. Photo spot.
Gitarra Lookout
One of the most beautiful spots on Izena Island. It commands a panoramic view of the coast, which has been selected as one of the 100 best beaches in Japan.
Dragon God Cave
The connection to the second Shoji is unknown. It must be a new place, and the islanders do not have any information about it, but there is no doubt that it is a very sacred place. Going behind the torii gate, there is a cave that is said to be a power spot for fertility.

There are two royal mausoleums built by the third king, "King Sho Shin," son of King Sho En, and they are the Tamaryo Palace in Izena and the Tamaryo Tomb in Shuri. You can see the actual tomb of one of them, the Tamagoden of Izena!

Izena Village Fureai Folk Museum
The Izena Village Fureai Folk Museum exhibits historical cultural assets from the shell mound period to the Ryukyu Kingdom period and up to the present day. Many of the items are very valuable and their value is a treasure to those in the know.

Buy souvenirs from Izena Island at the product exhibition in the Nakada Port Terminal! You can find all the souvenirs from the island. Get your favorite souvenirs before you leave the port!
Board the boat at least 10 minutes before departure. It is recommended to leave the island watching the ship leave. For those who get seasick, it is recommended to lie down and sleep in a carpeted room from the beginning. (The photo shows the scene of a school excursion farewell.)

Power Spot 1: "Heart Coral Reef
If you can't book a guide, go around on your own! First of all, let's go to the "Heart Coral Reef", a power spot where love can come true. First, let's go to the power spot "Heart Coral Reef," a heart-shaped coral reef that appears around 100cm above the tide level on a sunny day in the late afternoon.
Power Spot (2) "Rock Seat of God
If you could not book a guide, let's go around by yourself! First, a spectacular power spot that will shake your whole body, the "Rock Seat of God."
Power Spot (3) "Ahala Utaki
Legend has it that "Ahala Utaki," a Utaki where the myth of Amaterasu descended to brighten the world, was a sacred place where King Shoen's sister "Amokanashi of Iheya" continued to pray for the safety of the later King Shoen's sister, Machikani, after she left the island.

Power Spot 4: "Sea Gitara, Land Gitara" Gitara Observatory
Mysterious power spots where the sea and earth resonate with each other. Sea Gitarra and Land Gitarra are mysterious rocks created by the nature of Izena Island.
The natural formation, which is said to have been uplifted thousands of years ago, looks as if it were shaped by the energy of the earth.
This place, where the two forces of the sea and land face each other, is said to be a symbol of harmony and rebirth.
As you lose yourself in the sound of the tide and the wind blowing over the rocks, you can feel the great power of nature.


Power Spot #5: "Ryujin-do Cave
There is an incense burner inscribed with the inscription, "Miooyagami mamoitokane." This is one of the names of deities that appear in Ryukyuan mythology and in the folklore of Izena Island. On Izena Island, it is spoken of as a being involved in the creation of the island and its sacred places, and is passed down as a deity who descended from the heavens to protect and guide the island.

Tamagoden, quietly nestled in the forest, and the ruins of Izena Castle, spread out on a hill overlooking the island
This place, where prayer and history meet, gives us quiet strength when we want to prepare our hearts and take a step forward with our wishes.


Power Spot #7: Urugami Island
A mysterious power spot where God is said to have descended from the sky. Floating quietly off the coast of Izena Island is the sacred island where God is said to have descended from the heavens.
It has been the object of prayer since ancient times, and has been carefully guarded as a special presence for the islanders. The image of the island, embraced by the endlessly clear sea and sky, purifies the hearts of visitors and gives them quiet strength, making it a mystical power spot representative of Izena Island.
Only once or twice a month, when the tide is low, you can walk across to the island. However, please use a guide to cross the island as it is a sacred place. Restrooms are available and can be used as a resting place.
Power spot (7) "Sunset
After a short break, we went to Izena Beach to store and buy some drinks. A healing power spot at the end of the day. The sun setting gently turns the sea and sky a gentle shade of madder red at Izena Beach.
Watching the sunset while being surrounded by the sound of the waves is a special time that will calm and prepare your mind.
Power spot at night? Dinner at the Izakaya "Meshispo GOLSEN".
Popular with locals and tourists alike. Reservations are required to get in, so be sure to make a reservation in advance!
When the drinks are fun, go to the after-party.
